FIELD: water-desalinating technology. SUBSTANCE: method relates to producing fresh water from salt water with ensuring ecologically safe conditions in operation of coastal water-desalinating plants in regions where basins with sea or lake salt water are located and where need exists of supplying edible water to hotels, boarding houses, sanatoria located in coastal areas of sea or lake, and also where need exists of fresh water suitable for example for irrigation of fruit, forest-park and other green plantations, also for agricultural purposes, etc. which require systematic watering. According to method, water-desalinating plant is located in coastal zone of sea or lake basin with salt water with intake of water from field of bore-holes which are drilled down to water-impermeable underlying natural bed. Water is taken from water-bearing course where water is accumulated after filtration of salt water through bed filter. Passing through salinated coastal filtrate is sea or lake salt water. Filtrate is averaged with separating it by plant into desalinated water and brine. At discharge into basin of brine, salt content in it must corresponding to salt content in water of basin in zone of discharge thus producing no harmful influence on water medium in zone of brine discharge into basin to sea or lake salt water.
