FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgical production of zinc and can be used in hydrolytical purification of zinc sulfate solutions from iron and other impurities. For that, iron atoms are oxidized with gaseous oxygen at 50-70оС in presence of nitrite ions at weight ratio of ferrous ions to nitrite ions in initial solution equal to (10-59):1.
EFFECT: increased iron oxidation rate in neutral and acid zinc sulfate solutions.
