FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely processes and equipment for producing titanium sponge by magnesium heat reduction of titanium tetrachloride and by further vacuum separation of titanium.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing apparatus into vessel; supplying liquid and air for cooling; cooling apparatus; removing liquid and air. Liquid and air are supplied simultaneously. Liquid is supplied separately from air into caisson arranged on outer surface of vessel and air is supplied to space between apparatus and vessel. Removal of liquid and air is realized continuously. Apparatus for performing the method includes vessel into which separation apparatus is placed. Vessel is in the form of cylinder having cone in its lower part, branch pipes for feeding and removing liquid, branch pipes for feeding and removing air. Apparatus is provided with caisson arranged on outer surface of cylindrical part of vessel. Branch pipes for feeding liquid are arranged in lower part of caisson; branch pipes for removing liquid are arranged in upper part of caisson.

EFFECT: increased useful life period of apparatus for cooling and apparatus for vacuum separation due to parallel supply of liquid and air in closed jacket without steam generation.
