SUBSTANCE: proposed fuel rod primarily designed for canned fuel assemblies of type VVER-440 reactors has fuel core disposed in cylindrical cladding. Outer diameter of cladding is chosen between 7.00 · 10-3 and 8.79 · 10-3 m; diameter of fuel core is 5.83 · 10-3 to 7.32 · 10-3 m, and mass is 0.64 to 1.06 kg; fuel core to fuel element length ratio is 0.9240 to 0.9594.
EFFECT: reduced linear heat loads and fuel rod leakage probability, enlarged reactor power control range, improved fuel utilization.
