SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an agent regulating glucose level that can be used for prophylaxis and treatment of diabetes mellitus. Invention proposes new tetrapeptide: lysyl-glutamyl-aspartyl-tryptophane-amide of the general formula: Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp-NH2 eliciting biological activity that is able to regulate glucose level. Also, invention relates to pharmacological agent comprising tetrapeptide lysyl-glutamyl-aspartyl-tryprophan-amide of the general formula: Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp-NH2 as an active peptide agent taken in the effective dose. Invention proposes a method for prophylaxis and/or treatment of diabetes mellitus comprising administration to patient the pharmacological agent comprising tetrapeptide of the general formula: Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp-NH2 as an active peptide agent in effective doses 0.1-30 mcg/kg of body mass for at least once per a day for period to provide the therapeutic effect. Invention provides preparing biologically active compound of the peptide nature regulating glucose level in diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2.
