APPARATUS FOR SEMI-CONTINUOUS CASTING OF ARC-SHAPED REINFORCED BILLETS Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: semi-continuous casting of arc-shaped reinforced billets such as sections of band treads.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes cooled mold and cooled mandrel with vertical separating inserts and seed with rod. Said inserts have grooves and fastening members for reinforcement, horizontal annular end insert with head cavities and supporting outer and inner flanges. Horizontal annular end insert is movably mounted on mandrel with possibility of sliding on walls of mandrel and mold and with possibility of engaging of outer and inner flanges respectively with upper bases of mold and mandrel. Head cavities are open at side of mold wall for providing continuous feed of melt. Protrusions-recesses, possibly wedge-shaped ones are made on walls of head cavity for forming on heads mutually closing recesses-protrusions.

EFFECT: lowered labor consumption, enhanced quality of billets, possibility for separating head parts from billets at casting process.
