FIELD: gas-discharge engineering; cold-cathode gas-discharge devices and control units.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device designed to control ignition moment and can be used in high-voltage installations as switching apparatus has anode 1 and hollow cathode 2. Hole 6 is made in base of hollow cathode 2. Semiconductor discharge initiating device 7 with contact members 8 is disposed in cathode 2 interior. Contact members 8 are mounted on surface of semiconductor discharge initiating device 5 and spaced 5 - 12 mm apart to afford better conditions for development of discharge at low gas pressure. Discharge initiating device is made of granular-porous material whose porosity is 40 - 45% and size of sintered grains is not over 50 μm that ensures micron-size area of contact and high current density.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability and service life due to stable initiation of discharge; reduced energy of trigger pulse, enhanced operating rate.
