FIELD: industrial organic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to improved method for manufacturing arylalkyl ethers used, for example, as intermediates for synthesis of drugs and flavor substances. Method comprises charging reactor with homogenous, at normal pressure, mixture containing hydroxyaromating compound, ethanol, and catalyst and carrying out reaction at 250-370оС followed by processing reaction mixture, said catalyst being aromatic carboxylic acid alkali metal salt and molar ratio of said catalyst to said hydroxyaromating compound ranging from 1:30 to 1:60. Processing of reaction mixture is accomplished by distillation with such concentration of product maintained in reaction mixture, which prevents precipitation of catalyst during the distillation.
EFFECT: essentially increased yield of desired product and reduced formation of in-nucleus alkylated by-products and dialkyl ethers.
