FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: when manufacturing parts of high-strength medium-carbon alloyed steel, microstructure of steel blanks are tested for carbide lattice on polished sections employing etching to reveal carbide lattice, which is characterized using six-score scale according to State standard GOST 8233-65. When coarse or continuous carbide lattice is revealed in blanks and parts, they are subjected to heat treatment. Microstructure of steel is tested for carbide lattice in each series of parts after hardening performed in vacuum ovens. Usability of part series is estimated according to permissible score value for carbide lattice not exceeding 4.
EFFECT: improved mechanical properties of parts and reduced occurrence of unexpected brittleness-caused destructions of high-strength parts.
