FIELD: machine engineering, namely manufacture of tools for shaping threads by plastic deforming.
SUBSTANCE: roller has deforming turns with full profile and supporting turns with partial profile on lateral surface provided only at one side. Roller has the same pitch along side with full profile of turns. Built-up roller has three portions, namely: two supporting portions and one deforming portion arranged supporting ones. Supporting portions are rigidly secured to spindle and deforming portion is movably mounted in splines whose direction is inclined relative to lengthwise axis by 45°. Between supporting and deforming portions there is gap h whose width is equal to thickness difference of deforming and supporting turns. At knurling left side of thread profile on blank, gap h is self-aligned on the right from deforming portion. At knurling right side of tread profile, gap is self-aligned on the left from deforming portion due to changing rotation sign of spindle and axial motion of movable deforming portion in inclined splines. Such roller provides height of roughness of threaded surface lowered by 1 - 2 classes, cost price of tool reduced by 2 times.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of knurling process, improved strength of tool.
