FIELD: electrochemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: water solution of sodium nitrate is fed into middle chamber of three-chamber electrolytic tank. Under effect from electric current cations of sodium move through cation-exchanging membrane to cathode chamber, where sodium ions and hydroxyl ions interact with forming of sodium hydroxide. Nitrate ions under effect from current move through anion-exchange membrane into anode chamber, where they interact with silver ions, received as a result of anode dissolution of silver, with forming of silver nitrate.
EFFECT: simultaneous production of silver nitrate and sodium hydroxide.
