SUBSTANCE: proposed method for pre-burning glow-discharge starters incorporating phosphor activator includes passage of current pulse through its contacts, current value being to meet following condition: Ec > E > Em, where Ec is energy required for heating bimetal plate in stator to contacting temperature when current pulses are passed through its contacts; E is energy released in stator when current pulses are passed through its contacts; Em is energy required for activator melting in starter when current pulse is passed through its contacts.
EFFECT: reduced pre-burning time, improved starter characteristics.
