METHOD FOR MAKING HIGH QUALITY METALLIC ROD PRODUCTS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, namely billet continuous casting in combination with their rolling for making high quality rod type metallic products.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of casting hollow billet in continuous casting machine; cyclically drawing from mold cone part of billet by drawing stroke being no more than length half of mold; introducing non-oxidation gas to mold and to cast billet after drawing the last in order to equalize pressure; feeding melt metal with alloying additive by level equal to two drawing strokes; reducing hollow billet to solid cross section till forming loop at predetermined elongation of billet; shifting billet from vertical to horizontal position; placing formed loop of reduced billet inside heat -insulation chamber in non-oxidation atmosphere. Further deformation of billet to ready product size is realized in period of drawing billet from mold and also during pause between drawing operations. Length of billet deformed by reduction corresponds to drawing stroke and elongation degree. Further deformation of billet is preferably realized by step rolling process. Before step rolling, billet is heated by means of induction current and at each stroke it is reduced till final size of ready product.

EFFECT: lowered investment cost of manufacturing equipment, enhanced quality of billets due to forming in mold three-layer rod billet with fine grain structure.
