METHOD FOR BLOWOUT LIQUIDATION IN OIL AND GAS WELLS Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2261982 C1

FIELD: oil and gas production industry, particularly to liquidate blowouts in difficult-to-access permafrost zones.

SUBSTANCE: method involves drawing-off fluid; blocking blowout; suppressing thereof and spraying cooling liquid, for instance water, on flame. Cooling liquid jets are directed to well head and cooling liquid is sprayed for 10-20 min. After that cooling liquid jets are directed to interface between gas flow and flame and gradually moved in vertical direction, which results in flame separation from well head and in flame lifting with setting marks every 0.5 m along well height up to obtaining height of secondary gas flow ignition at well head. Then cooling liquid flow rate is increased for 0.02 m3/s and flame is separated from well head for the second time up to reaching height of secondary gas ignition at well head. Above operations are repeated up to gas stabilizing along secondary ignition height at well head. Then cooling liquid jets are lowered to height equal to 2/3 of maximal secondary gas flow ignition height and one cooling liquid jet is directed to well head. Aiming means adapted to aim blowout preventer equipment is arranged in cooled well head area. Aiming means has outlet pipe secured to well head. Gas flow is lifted through branch pipe for safe height at which secondary gas ignition is taken place. After that cooling liquid supply is stopped and well is killed by well-known method.

EFFECT: provision of continuous accident recovery works and reduced costs of blowout liquidation.
