FIELD: metallurgy, possibly plants for continuous and semi-continuous casting of ingots, mainly to thin strips.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of introducing stool to intermediate reservoir arranged over inductor of mold and having bottom opening whose profile is similar to that of stool; holding melt metal fed to intermediate reservoir by means of outer electromagnetic field of inductor until filling with melt upper end surface of stool; descending stool and feeding melt to zone subjected to action of inner electromagnetic field of inductor. Efforts of electromagnetic field occurred inside inductor act upon crystallized ingot, they are directed normally relative to lengthwise axis of ingot and form its target geometry. It is preferably to heat intermediate reservoir and tray by means of induction currents before supplying melt.
EFFECT: enhanced stability of initial stage of casting process of thin ingots, uniform supply of melt metal onto end surface of stool.
