FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing 4-aminodiphenylamine. Method involves condensation of nitrobenzene with aniline using tetramethyl ammonium compound and by azeotropic distilling off water and aniline and the following catalytic hydrogenation of prepared salts of 4-nitroso- and 4-nitrodiphenylamine to 4-aminodiphenylamine. Tetramethyl ammonium chloride is used as a tetramethyl ammonium compound. After termination of the condensation mixture of salts of 4-nitroso- and 4-nitrodiphenylamine is extracted from the reaction mixture with water, impurities are removed from extract and then the catalytic hydrogenation reaction is carried out in medium of water with toluene. Method allows reducing raw consumptions due to using tetramethyl ammonium chloride, to reduce time for catalytic hydrogenation and to reduce consumption of the hydrogenation catalyst.
