PHOTODYNAMIC METHOD FOR TREATING INFECTIOUS CORNEAL ULCERS Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC A61F9/00 A61N5/67

Abstract RU 2269326 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method involves instilling 1-2 drops of aqueous sodium hypochlorate solution of 5-20 mg/l concentration 2-3 times a day into conjunctival cavity. Then, photosensitizing gel based on hyaluronic acid viscoelastic to corneal ulcer selected from a group containing Healon, Viscoat or Hyatulon is applied. The gel contains chlorine row photosensitizer selected from a group containing Photolon, Radachlorine or Photodithazine in the amount of 0.1 to 2% by mass or porphyrin row photosensitizer selected from a group containing Photogem or Photofrin in the amount of 0.1 to 1% by mass. After having exposed the photosensitizing gel applied to corneal ulcer away from light during 30-60 min, the corneal ulcer is exposed to laser irradiation by applying sequential applications in circle with neighboring light spots being overlaid by 5%, first, along external ulcer boundary and finishing the circular laser irradiation in the ulcer center. Radiation power density is gradually reduced from 60-80 J/cm2, when irradiating ulcer periphery, to 30-40 J/cm2, when irradiating ulcer center.

EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in stopping inflammation process; high healing and epithelialization rate; improved vision acuity; accelerated treatment course; avoided secondary inflammation processes and ulcer perforation.
