FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying multi-layer wear-resistant coatings onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of applying multi-layer coating by vacuum-plasma deposition. According to invention are applied: lower layer of titanium compound and metal; upper layer titanium nitride or carbonitride and metal; intermediate layer of upper layer material alloyed with molybdenum. Chrome, silicon, aluminum or zirconium is used as metal. Layers of coating are applied by means of three cathodes arranged horizontally in the same plane. Two built-up cathodes are arranged mutually opposite and they are made of titanium and used metal. Third built-up cathode is made of titanium and molybdenum.
EFFECT: increased cohesion and adhesion strength of layers with base material, enhanced effectiveness of cutting tool.
