FIELD: electrical engineering and power electronics.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method involves use of circuit set up of series-connected current limiter (for instance, fuse) 1 and voltage limiter 2. Load 3 is connected in parallel with voltage limiter 2. This method includes checkup of voltage across load input terminals, its comparison with setting value, and passage of part of current through load shorting-out circuit of voltage limiter in case voltage exceeds setting value; checkup of supply mains and shorting-out circuit currents, measurement of these currents to detect their heating action, their comparison with setting values, and opening of circuit running to supply mains in case these currents exceed setting values; and transfer of shorting-out circuit to condition in which it shorts out input terminals of load; setting value of shorting-out circuit heating action indicator, when it operates for disconnection, should exceed setting value of heating action for operation to disconnect current limiter. Ampere-second characteristics of circuits under mentioned conditions are used as heating action indicators.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability.
