SUBSTANCE: proposed three-phase double-layer lap winding with 2p = 10c poles in z = 54c slots and coils grouped 3c times is made of 15c concentric-coil groups numbered 1G through 15(c)G at mean slot pitch of coils yc = 5 and integer number c = 1, 2, 3,... In order to reduce differential dissipation σd in m' = three-band fractional-pitch (q = 18/5) lap winding, four-coil groups 1G, 2G, 4G in first-grouping coil groups 1G through 5G have slot pitches ym = 8, 6, 4, 2 with coil turn numbers wc/ wc, wc, (1 - x)wc, respectively, and three-coil groups 3G, 5G have slot pitch ys = 7, 5, 3 with coil turn numbers wc, (1+ x)wc, wc, respectively, mentioned distribution of coils with unequal turn number being repeated in each next grouping, where index of turn number inequality of phase groups x = 0.67.
EFFECT: reduced differential dissipation in double-layer lap winding.
