FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; production of spongy titanium by magnesium-thermal reduction of titanium tetrachloride and cleaning by vacuum thermal separation.
SUBSTANCE: Vacuum separation apparatus has retort-reactor closed with sunken cover with central branch pipe fitted with low-melting plug, heat shield, retort-condenser, cooler and vacuum duct. It is additionally provided with cylindrical attachment mounted on hole of central branch pipe above low-melting plug; top of this attachment is made from solid metal sheet; cylindrical wall is provided with ports. Ratio of attachment height to height of central branch pipe is equal to 1: (4-5).
EFFECT: increased productivity due to reduction of labor consumption; improved quality of spongy titanium.
