FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; devices for production of sponge titanium by magnesium thermal reduction of titanium tetrachloride. SUBSTANCE: proposed device includes retort-reactor closed by deepened cover which carries central branch pipe for filling magnesium and has hole for mounting detachable branch pipe supplying titanium tetrachloride; it also has passage in its flange; mounted on retort-reactor are heat shield, retort-condenser and cooler. Ratio of height of central branch pipe to its diameter ranges from 1.5 to 3.5 and ratio of sectional area of hole in cover to sectional area of passage does not exceed 15; heat shield is asymmetric; its larger side is directed towards retort- condenser and smaller side is directed towards retort-reactor. Retort- condenser may be mounted on retort-reactor without deepened cover. EFFECT: increased productivity; improved quality of sponge titanium. 3 cl, 2 dwg
