FIELD: chemical-thermal treatment of articles, possibly in machine engineering and other industry branches, namely high temperature nitriding of machine steel parts.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of nitriding in glow discharge by vacuum heating of articles in high-density plasma of nitrogen; generating plasma between part and screen due to hollow cathode effect. Nitriding is realized at temperature 700 - 1000°C. Surface quenching is performed by cooling in argon flow at rate exceeding critical rate of quenching steel.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of nitriding process, increased wear resistance and contact stability in time of hardened layer.
