FIELD: mechanical engineering; applied electromechanics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for supporting rotating parts in suspended condition. Proposed method of discrete control of electromagnetic bearing comes to the following: value of voltage supplied to coils with control windings is chosen, fact of passing of support necks of rotor through fixed level of deflection relative to axis of stator is determined and voltage from coils with control windings is either removed or applied. When selecting inductivity of coils, rotor is lifted until stopping of current rise in coils with control windings. Then m fixed levels of deviation from zero, 2 m values of velocities of rotor necks, movement of 2m threshold values of current differences in diametrically opposite coils with control windings are chosen and set. At equal lapse of time, currents in all coils are determined, as well as all deviations from zero level and velocities of movement of rotor necks at change over of rotor through one of m levels. Control actions onto actuating device are formed which, according to values of control actions simultaneously feeds or removes voltage from all coils with control windings.

EFFECT: increased response, enlarged stability range of automatic control system.
