FIELD: manufacture of building materials of low thermal conductivity and density; production of granulated foamed glass from unassorted broken glass.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in production of granulated glass at size of granules of 50-1500 mcm in form close to spherical. Proposed method of production of foamed glass is based on use of broken glass and gas-forming agent including grinding broken glass, gas forming agent, preparation of initial mixture, granulation, drying, foaming and cooling of granules thus obtained. Use is made of carbon-containing gas-forming agent and 30-70 mass-% of aqueous solution of sodium silicate and/or potassium silicate. Initial mixture is prepared by mixing the silicate solution with ground broken glass and carbon-containing gas forming agent at temperature not higher than 70°C followed by treatment of mixture at temperature of 450-550°C to complete removal of water including chemically combined water; after cooling, product is ground to size of particles of 10-150 mcm and aqueous dispersion of these particles is prepared. Granulation and drying of initial mixture are performed simultaneously at temperature of 450-500°C and foaming is carried out at temperature of 750-870°C in vortex flow of air jet directed at acute angle to direction of free fall of granules, thus obtaining foamed granules 50-1500 mcm in size.

EFFECT: reduced labor consumption and power requirements.
