FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: method involves studying total tear production in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients after Schirmer. The value being equal to or less than 14 mm in both eyes, or the total tear production difference being greater than 7 mm in the left and right eye, occurrence and/or progressive diabetic retinopathy development is to be predicted. The value being greater than 14 mm and equal on both eyes, an additional examination is to be carried out under dynamic conditions. Total tear production drop being observed in both eyes or in one of them, occurrence or progressive diabetic retinopathy development is to be predicted.
EFFECT: high reliability of early stage preclinical prognosis.
