FIELD: polymer production.
SUBSTANCE: polymer foam production process comprises following stages: (a) thermoplasticizing thermoplastic polymer resin; (b) dispersing polymer or copolymer stabilizer of foaming agent having affinity for the latter, forming second phase of discrete domains in thermoplastic polymer resin so that foaming agent would be mainly concentrated within or around domains of foaming agent stabilizer, and dispersing foaming agent in thermoplasticized thermoplastic polymer resin at initial pressure to form foamable composition; and (c) foaming above foamable composition in absence of water and at pressure below above-mentioned initial value to produce multimodal thermoplastic foam. Thermoplastic polymer foam and an industrial article containing thermoplastic polymer foam are also described.
EFFECT: enhanced rigidity of foam and improved insulation capability thereof.
