FIELD: woodworking industry.

SUBSTANCE: etching of wood with aqueous wood mordants includes treatment of wood with aqueous composition including at least one dye and at least one dye stabilizer of general formula I or II: (I) (II), wherein G₁ and G₂, independently from each other, represent C₁-C₄-alkyl or, jointly, pentamethylene moiety; Z₁ and Z₂ each represents methyl or, jointly, bridge member optionally substituted by ester residue, ether residue, hydroxyl, oxo, cyanohydrine, amido, amino, carboxyl, or urethane radical; E represents oxyl or hydroxyl; X inorganic or organic anion; and total number of cations h corresponds to total number of anions j. Use of dye stabilizers I or II for photochemical and thermal stabilization of etched wood is further described. Wood etched according to present invention meets current requirements regarding penetration, light resistance, and temperature resistance.
