FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, possibly conversion of low manganese cast iron in converter.
SUBSTANCE: method of converting low manganese cast iron comprises steps of loading metal scrap; pouring cast iron; adding lime and slag; blowing cast iron with oxygen. Alumo-flux is used as slag with flow rate determined according relation Qfl = -5.75 Tir + 927.9 Siir - 9319.6 C + 9031.7, where Qfl - flow rate of alumo-flux, kg; Tir - temperature of melt cast iron, °C; Siir -content of silicon in melt cast iron, 5; C - target content of carbon in metal before discharging it out of converter, %.
EFFECT: improved slag formation in beginning stage of blowing through, enhanced condition of desulfurizing, heat balance of melting process.
