FIELD: investigating or analyzing materials by the use of ultrasonic, sonic or infrasonic waves, particularly to certificate timber during cutting and processing and to control timber quality during storage thereof.

SUBSTANCE: method involves arranging ultrasonic device sensors relatively parallel side surfaces free of bark in transversal round or square beam direction; repeatedly measuring ultrasound wood parameters at different sensor locations along round or square beam length. The sensors are located along transversal cross-sectional axis of round or square beam as close as possible to longitudinal axis of round or square beam. Distance between the sensors is determined with taking into consideration round beam rise in measurement point located along round beam. To estimate wood quality simple average value determined from several tests is used.

EFFECT: simplified operation and reduced labor inputs.
