FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: coefficients which define the relationship between density of a wood sample to be measured from ultrasound speed for a specific species of wood taking into accounts its moisture content are calculated; the wood sample is subjected to longitudinal-transverse ultrasonic scanning; the propagation time of ultrasound through the wood sample is measured, wherein measurement of said propagation time and the dimensions of said wood sample is carried out in the longitudinal-transverse direction based on the constant basic longitudinal length of the wood sample and the variable value of the end part of the sample; based on the dimensions of the wood sample and the propagation time of ultrasound through the wood sample ultrasound speed in the wood sample is determined and wood density is determined based on the obtained ultrasound speed value and the coefficients which define the relationship between density and ultrasound speed in a specific species of wood taking into account its moisture content.
EFFECT: possibility measuring wood density with high accuracy.
