METHOD FOR PREPARING AND CALIBRATING ROLLS OF PILGER MILL Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC B21B28/00 

FIELD: rolled tube production, namely technological tools, particularly method for preparing and calibrating rolls of pilger mills.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of casting roll profile of carbon steel; working barrel and journals of roll relative to roll axis; performing multiple rough working of roll groove contour for surfacing in roll-turning lathe on former; performing multiple surfacing of working profile of roll, that is of striker, of polishing portion, of lengthwise outlet angle by wear- and heat-resistant wire in surfacing machine with use of former while providing allowance for working; performing multiple working in roll-turning lathe and further grinding on former relative to roll axis. At working and grinding grooved passes of roll in roll-turning lathe on former, geometry sizes of roll journals are used as base. Roll journal sizes are returned and reground for new sizes relative to roll axis when wear degree of roll journal achieves more than 1.0 mm.

EFFECT: lowered cross thickness difference, reduced number of cross cuts in tube walls, decreased metal consumption factor, improved quality factors of tube wall thickness, lowered cost of tubes.
