FIELD: fire prevention, containment or extinguishing specially adapted for particular objects or places, namely to extinguish oil, wood, natural gas fires, particularly with the use of granular carbon dioxide.
SUBSTANCE: method involves delivering granular carbon dioxide into combustion area along ballistic curve with the use of projectiles made as briquettes filled with granular carbon dioxide packed in porous elastic envelopes. Fire extinguishing device comprises projectile throwing means, which accelerates projectiles filled with fire-extinguishant in barrel under the action of gaseous working medium pressure applied to projectiles. Device also has gaseous working medium pressure creation means and bearing structure adapted to support above throwing means. The throwing means is made as self-loading air gun, which may perform continuous aimed firing to throw granular carbon dioxide briquettes to fire site.
