FIELD: analytical methods in ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises sampling gray, normalized, and hardened cast iron, measuring thermoelectromotive force in samples across side surfaces in sample cylinders, and calculating mass contents of silicon, manganese, and carbon. Calculations are performed according to formulas including measured thermoelectromotive force values, constants depending on cast iron modification and casting conditions thereof, and physical quantities depending on cast iron levels.
EFFECT: simplified sampling, increased determination accuracy, and extended number of determinable elements.
