FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: process comprises precipitation of magnesium-containing compound by treating aqueous magnesium chloride solution (100-300 g/L MgCl2) with ammonium or sodium bicarbonate used in amounts corresponding to 0.8-1.0 mass of magnesium chloride. Resulting slurry is stirred and filtered, precipitate is rinsed and calcined at 600-850°C. Initial magnesium chloride solution is prepared from solid waste of magnesium-thermal production of zirconium. When re-preparing magnesium chloride solution, water from rinsing of precipitate is used. Filtrate is evaporated to produce sodium chloride. Magnesium oxide product is characterized by high purity and desired properties such as bulk density not higher than 0.3 g/cm3 and content of particles with fineness below 1 μm at least 20%.
EFFECT: improved quality of product.
