FIELD: civil engineering; wooden structures.

SUBSTANCE: testing is carried out using test specimens in form of two fixed support parts and one part to be spalled. Shape of test specimens prevents their skewing, and dispensing with additional device for testing for spalling provides absence of rolling friction and sliding friction forces at side faces of spalled part of test specimen. Spalling strength along fibers is found by mathematical formula.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of measurement owing to elimination of skewing of specimen at no rolling and sliding friction forces on sides of spalled part of test specimen.
