SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of derivatives of 3-hydroxypyridine that represent semifinished products used in synthesis of chemical-pharmaceutical preparations, in particular, mexidol, emoxipine, aminostigmin. Method involves interaction of ammonia with 2-carbonyl-derivative of furan. Process is carried out in aqueous medium at constant stirring and in the presence of surface-active salts of strong inorganic and/or organic acid (pK is less 2.5) as a catalyst. As a rule, salts of phosphoric, polyphosphoric, pyrophosphoric, hexametaphosphoric acids or salts of alkyl- or arylsulfonic acids are used. Method provides significant accelerating the process and to obtain the end product of very high purity.
