FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing 1-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)urea. The method consists in the interaction of 2-(R-hydroxycarbonyl)amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine, where R = Me, Et, n-Pr, n-Bu or Ph, with an aqueous solution of an ammonium compound and subsequent isolation and purification of the target product. Ammonium hydroxide, carbonate, phosphate, formate or ammonium acetate is preferably used as the ammonium compound.
EFFECT: proposed method makes it possible to eliminate the use of organic solvents and elevated temperatures, reduce the reaction time and obtain the target product with a high yield of 95-99%.
