FIELD: application of labels, coupons and excise duty stamps attached with their adhesive layer to rolled carrier tape, to side surface of container having round section or having convex surface.

SUBSTANCE: method involves unwinding roll with labels; feeding tape to gluing zone; rolling tape in direction reverse relative to direction of winding of tape in initial roll; separating labels by pulling tape with labels around thinned edge of rigid member designed for separating of labels; gluing labels onto movable container; pressing label to container and smoothing it over container surface, with tape being smoothed at sites upstream and downstream of separating device; providing directing of tape downstream of separating device edge with rotation through predetermined angle relative to direction of movement of tape upstream of edge of separating device so as to change angle of rotation; during movement of container, preliminarily advancing label by length smaller than label length; thereafter, stopping advancement of label. On further movement of container, it comes into contact with advanced part of label to provide mutual gluing thereof. Pressing and smoothing of label over the entire surface of container is provided by rolling of container surface by means of at least two pressing rollers. Also, labeling method is disclosed.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of labeling method and apparatus providing for precise positioning of labels on container, simplified manufacture and operation of apparatus, and reduced consumption of power for effectuating said process.
