FIELD: nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method that can be used, for instance, to manufacture ceramic rods for fuel cores of miscellaneous nuclear-reactor fuel elements involves following procedures. Zirconium alloy tube is filled with definite amount of nuclear fuel powder and matrix material. Zirconium alloy caps are attached to butt-end surfaces of cylindrical plugs provided with annular drillings. Inner surfaces of caps are coated with layer of paste prepared from powder of metal oxide, such as aluminum oxide. Tube is closed with plugs and assembly obtained is degassed at high temperature; solder in the form of, say, paste is placed on butt-end surfaces of tube, assembly is heated to soldering temperature and subjected to isostatic compression. Tube is heated in vicinity of plug drillings until metal oxide is opened, and tube ends are removed together with plugs.
EFFECT: enhanced yield of rods which is important in mass production.
