FIELD: metallurgy, namely apparatuses for plastic working of metals by extrusion.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of pressing out metal of blank from container through die hole by means of effort of pressing out tool and registering in out tool surface being in contact with pressed out metal; registering occurring of shrinkage cavity according to zero value of said stress. Apparatus for performing the method includes container, die and pressing out tool. In center of pressing out tool there is unit for measuring axial stress; said unit is in the form of insert insulated from atmosphere, communicated through main line with vacuum meter and having open porosity with pores opening to working surface of pressing out tool and it is made as load cell and rod passing through cavity of pressing out tool and engaged with load cell. The last is in the form of strain-gage beam.
EFFECT: reduced energy consumption due to prevention of time lag at detecting such flaw as shrinkage cavity in extrusion line.
