WOODSCREW AND METHOD OF ITS DRIVING-IN Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC F16B25/04 F16B25/10 

FIELD: mechanical engineering; fasteners.

SUBSTANCE: proposed woodscrew has round countersunk head or plain head with slot on head, cylindrical body with threaded part and pointed end. Cylindrical body of woodscrew is provided with vertical slots of depth equal to thread depth. Countersunk or plain head is provided with two symmetrical flats at both sides relative to axis of symmetry of head at a distance equal to half of head radius. Bore of depth equal to 1.5 of thread height with formation of relief angle is made on end of woodscrew at a distance of half of nominal diameter from beginning of point upwards. Slots are made along vertical axis of symmetry along triangular profile screw lines. Method of driving-in of woodscrew into wood includes force action on head along longitudinal axis. Before driving-in woodscrew, hole is made in seat place of diameter from half to two thirds of nominal diameter of woodscrew and depth exceeding by one third underhead length of woodscrew. Then woodscrew is driven into this hole by hammer strokes or by screwing with wrench fitted on head, with simultaneous building of vertical effort. Thanks to this method, no cracks are formed in wood and woodscrew can be easily turned out.
