FIELD: polygraphy, printing and duplicating equipment.
SUBSTANCE: in accordance to the invention, the original two-dimensional image tone signal, consisting of multilevel values of tone signal of original sections, is transformed to two-dimensional signal of screen copy, consisting of two-level tone values of its printing and space elements. To this end, two types of two-dimensional signals of weight values of elements are generated. In the first one of these, weight values are distributed between elements in the order which does not depend on tone alternation manner across sections of original, in the second one - with consideration of geometry of its contours. Two-level signal of screen copy tone is created, setting its values on basis of result of comparison of values of original sections signal with weight values of both first and second type. The last of these are positioned inside spatial intervals, position of which is determined by creation of contour route signal, and limits of segments are set depending on amount of neighboring elements.
EFFECT: better processing of small details of image due to more efficient usage of original signal information and resolution of printing.
