SUBSTANCE: in accordance to the invention, each one of connection indicators fitted on ports of commutation panel is made with possible perception of collateral electromagnetic radiation signals in a location of cable route where lack of homogeneity appears; each connection indicator is positioned closely to corresponding port of commutation panel at a distance, sufficient for perception of signals of collateral electromagnetic radiation which appears in a location where lack of homogeneity appears near current port on connection of a cable to it, on transmission of appropriate signals through the cable, and on removal of any other one of the remaining commutation panel ports, preventing false triggering of connection indicator by signals of collateral electromagnetic radiation from cable route to any one of aforementioned remaining ports; by means of a data processing block, to which all connection indicators are connected, a certain port of commutation panel is identified on basis of signal from connection indicator matched with that port, which signal is sent on receipt of collateral electromagnetic radiation by that connection indicator.
EFFECT: possible identification of a port or a cable connected to it, through which data is transferred by network device, without replacement or remodeling of the whole commutation panel.
