SUBSTANCE: invention refers to communication engineering. Monitoring system for cable connections is proposed, containing: network device, a patch panel with ports for connecting cables, and at least one portion of the cable path being part of said patch panel and including one of said panel ports, and next to the said site there is a device using Ethernet connection setting signals, a hardware and software complex that identifies the port of said patch panel where the port of said network device is connected by applying said device using Ethernet connection setup signals, while the network connection itself is excluded.

EFFECT: development of such a means of monitoring cable connections using Ethernet connection setup signals that will identify the port of the patch panel where the network device port is connected, without installing a network connection, and without using reflectometer.
