TRANSIT-PACKING SET FOR TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF SPENT FUEL ASSEMBLIES Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC G21F5/00 G21F5/08 

FIELD: nuclear engineering; dry storage of spent fuel assemblies in container.

SUBSTANCE: proposed transit packing set for transport and storage of spent fuel assemblies has metal-concrete container and split damping shell designed to minimize container lifting height when mounting it into this shell. Split damping shell has impact-damping components in the form of tubes. Transport packing set is provided with means for fastening damping shell to container. Split damping shell is made in the form of detachable-edge overlapping drum and base that functions as end plate of drum engageable with container shell bottom. Drum accommodates longitudinal alignment guide members designed for engaging container shell when the latter is covered with drum. Damping shell base mounts guide members engageable with respective mating parts of container to ensure desired angular position of the latter relative to longitudinal axis of damping shell.

EFFECT: enhanced safety in handling spent fuel assemblies, ability of using containers of optimized size and mass with respect to amount of spent fuel assemblies placed therein under conditions of nuclear power station infrastructure.
