SUBSTANCE: device comprises string having channel, a number of tools installed in the string and adapted to install objects having equal dimensions in engaging positions. The objects may slide downwards via the channel. Each tool installed in engaging position may have inner diameter changeable from larger value to lesser value for one object engagement. Method involves using string provided with channel and tools so that channel passes via tools; selectively activating string tools without activating tool lowering in channel to transfer each activated tool from the first state into the second state. In the first state tool provide movement of freely falling object through the channel. In the second state tool engages freely falling object.

EFFECT: increased device reliability and enhanced method efficiency.
