FIELD: systems for protecting electric lines, which react to difference between currents, in which values of voltage or current are compared in corresponding points at different wires of one and the same circuit, for example by current in direct and reverse conductor.

SUBSTANCE: method for protecting electric line includes measuring value and direction of currents on ends of electric line, determining speed of current alternation in direct wire, generation of working signal for disabling the electric line when current alternation speed in direct wire exceeds given value. Device for protecting an electric line contains switch, current sensor, first and second threshold device, trigger, AND element, impulse generator, shift register and first and second electronic switches, where output of current sensor is connected to inputs of first and second threshold devices, outputs of which are connected respectively to input of "one" and "zero" setting of trigger, output of which is connected to first input of AND element, second input of which is connected to output of impulse generator, output of AND element is connected to input of shift register, output of which is connected to inputs of first and second electronic switch.

EFFECT: increased speed of operation.
