FIELD: radio detection and ranging.
SUBSTANCE: the device has antenna elevation channel, antennal azimuth channel, reference signal channel, unit for determination of target geometric center, the antenna elevation channel has the first and second antenna feeds, the first subtracting device, the first mixer, the first intermediate - frequency amplifier, the first phase detector, the first power amplifier, and the first antenna servo drive, the antenna azimuth channel has the third and fourth antenna feeds, the second mixer, the second intermediate - frequency amplifier, the second phase detector, the second power amplifier, and the second antenna servo drive, the reference signal channel has a summer, the third mixer, the third intermediate-frequency amplifier, automatic gain control circuit and a local oscillator. The method consists in the fact that the target geometric center is determined in compliance with expressions: φ=φi+(φi-φt)/2 ; β=βi+(βi-βt)/2 , where φi, βi, φt, βt - the angular positions of the initial and terminal points on the target body in the elevation and azimuth planes that are determined at the missile approach by electro-magnetic energy in the target direction in two planes and determination of the angular position of the initial and terminal points on the target body in each plane respectively at the instant of appearance and disappearance of the signal reflected from the target.
EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of measurement of the target co-ordinates due to provision of measurement of target co-ordinate relative to the geometric center a length target.
