FIELD: fire-fighting, particularly to extinguish fires in large tanks filled with oil products.
SUBSTANCE: method involves installing metal mesh at predetermined height over fire site; moving metal mesh after fire initiation detection into flame flare and spraying the mesh with coolant with rate of 0.05-0.15 kg/c per 1 m2 of fire site projection onto horizontal plane. Mesh has cell dimensions of where Vcr - critical flame rate, m is mesh cell width. Metal mesh wire has thickness determined from where d is mesh wire thickness, m is mesh sell width.
EFFECT: increased fire-extinguishing efficiency and simplicity of large fire site suppression.
